Only one additional driver can be added to a contract for an extra $5.00 per day. The additional driver must be at least 25 years of age and must adhere to the same rules as the principal driver. The additional driver fee is applied to each person printed on the contract, whether or not they will drive the vehicle. The person responsible for payment must be named on the contract, even if that person will drive. No additional drivers are removed from the contract after the vehicle leaves our office. All additional drivers are responsible for the vehicle until it’s returned.

Unless there is prior written approval, vehicles must be returned to the same location they were picked up from.

Customers are responsible for any potential damage if they drop the vehicle off while we are closed, and are charged until the key is returned to the rental office.

Customers must be 25 years or older to rent a vehicle with us. We do have a young driver’s fee. Please see below for details.

Our A/V system remotes require batteries in order to work properly, but because new battery installation with each rental would be environmentally and financially flawed, we do not supply new batteries on each rental. We do try to make sure the batteries have sufficient power before a customer leaves on their rental.

Many of our vehicles are equipped with either a TV/DVD or a DVD standalone audio/visual system. We try to make sure the A/V system is working before a customer leaves on their rental. If something does not work properly during a rental period, we as that the rental office is contacted so the issue can be resolved. It is important to note that the equipment is very delicate and can break easily. Road vibrations, going off-road, and sometimes even car washes can damage the equipment. Renters are responsible for all remotes associated with the built-in audio/visual equipment.

We offer refunds if the cancellation is made more than two weeks from the time of a pickup. If you need to cancel a reservation, please contact our office at (510) 974-3361.

Hawaii has strict laws about child restraint car and booster seats, which must be followed while in our rentals. We carry a large selection of child and infant car seats for rent for the customer’s convenience.

Any van rental that is furnished with additional seating is a passenger van, and will be charged as such. Cargo vans are usually equipped with two front passenger seats. However, if a cargo van is equipped with a rear jump seat, a third person may use that seat without any additional charges.

No one is allowed to sit in the cargo area of a cargo van.

When a leaving a cash deposit, a valid driver’s license, a local utility bill, and a job ID or a paycheck stub that we can verify is needed.

Please be aware that the Collision Damage Waiver is not insurance, but it does help keep costs down if the rented vehicle is damaged. By accepting it, a renter agrees to pay the sum specified per day for the rental term. Additionally, the renter is responsible for the deductible applicable to the collision damage, provided the vehicle is operated in compliance with the rental agreement. The renter is liable for collision damage to the vehicle in the amount of said damage, as well as for the full replacement value.

Collision damage waivers have a deductible because of the high value of our vehicles and to help keep the collision damage waiver affordable.

The Collision Damage Waiver does not cover the interior of the van or its contents, including video screens, remote controls, etc. Please make sure when the vehicle is parked and unoccupied, all doors are locked, A/V equipment screens are in the closed position, and all electronic devices are stored away not visible from the outside. This helps prevents vandalism and theft.

The Collision Damage Waiver does not cover damages due to insufficient height or width clearances, so please take caution when entering a parking garage, a drive through, or other questionable low-lying areas.

We are not responsible for any costs claimed during the car rental period, including the cost of other car rentals, restaurants, hotels, or any other travel expenses.

A deposit must be made before renting a vehicle. If the deposit is left on a credit card, a hold is placed on the account until the rental period is over. If the deposit is left on a debit card, we will charge it and credit the difference once the rental is returned.

If a credit card company offers rental insurance at no charge, you may decline our insurance and the rental(s) will still be covered for collision damages or theft with no deductible. Most major credit card companies, such as American Express, MasterCard, Visa, and Discover, provide rental car insurance at no extra cost. It is the responsibility of the renter to contact their credit card carrier and ask them if they cover rental insurance. Some credit cards have an improved insurance coverage program, and we strongly recommend the Premium Car Rental Insurance from American Express.

In most cases, credit card companies do not cover box truck rentals because they are considered commercial and not covered in rental policies.

Keep in mind that a debit or a bank card does not cover car rental insurance. Most credit card collision is secondary, meaning they only pay what an auto policy insurance carrier does not cover.

Also, many credit card companies have exclusions when it comes to business rentals. In these cases, as with every rental, with ask that customers please check with their credit card company to obtain detailed information about coverage.

Renters are also responsible for all towing expenses, should they be necessary.

Any tire or rim work must first be authorized by our manager. If a repair is approved by one of our managers, the renter must return all claimed original parts, including the tire, rim, and repair receipt, upon return of the rental vehicle.

We reserve the right to deny a rental based on a customer’s driving history, age, or the ability to provide collision insurance. This policy applies to all drivers on a rental agreement.

ABC Auto Center does not mind that the renters eat inside, but only ask to clean up after their own trash. Leftover meals and snacks (Chips, candy, drinks, salted or sugared flavored items) attract roaches that hide deep within the vehicle leaving the next renter with an unpleasant trip. It is a horrifying experience for some people that have phobia of insects. Please Kokua for the next family.

  • Renters must follow our repair instructions, regardless if it conflicts with their schedule. Safety comes first, but we’ll do everything in our power to get you back on the road as quickly as possible. Failure to follow our guidelines will void the rental contract’s terms and conditions, and reimbursement of any repair bill will not be refunded.
  • Provided that it was not due to customer negligence, if a major repair is necessary, we will either put you up in a hotel or arrange another means of transportation with all expenses covered. Should you need a replacement vehicle, no additional charges will made for time added to a trip.

Renters are charged an additional cleaning and deodorizing fee if the vehicle is returned dirty or odorous due to pets. The charge will be a $100 minimum, and may be more expensive, depending on the amount of work necessary to clean the interior. This is a strict policy that we enforce so that we continue to provide high-quality vehicles to our customers.

ABC Auto Center conducts driver’s license abstracts every six months to see customer driving records. Based on this public information, we have the right to refuse to rent to any customer based on their driving history. Also, we charge $1 per point, per day should there be any points on a renter’s license.

The Price Match guarantee applies to competitor pre-paid rental prices, and vehicles must be comparable and in the same rental category. The Price Match only applies to multi-day rentals, and must be available during the time of your rental. ABC Auto Center will need to verify the terms and conditions of the alternative offer. We will contact you after reviewing.

Renters are responsible for returning vehicles with the same amount of fuel upon pick up. The fuel level amount is printed on the rental contract for reference. If you return it with less fuel, we will charge $6.00/gallon used, so please check the fuel level before returning it. Also, there are no refunds for extra fuel added to the vehicle.

Renters assume risk when traveling in isolated areas or foreign countries. If a vehicle is taken into a remote area, such as a national park on a camping trip far from a mechanical shop or parts supplier, please be aware this could affect trip continuation should a problem arise. ABC Auto Center will help as much as possible, but we are not responsible for expenses incurred for traveling into these areas, such as gas, miles, and lodging.

ABC Auto Center is committed to providing a safe, clean fleet for our customers and employees. In order to better deliver on this commitment, all ABC vehicles are non-smoking. A $400 cleaning fee will be assessed for vehicles returned with evidence of smoking.

Anyone who occupies a ABC Rentals vehicle in the US and Canada must comply with the smoke-free policy by refraining from smoking in ABC vehicles. All ABC vehicles are non-smoking.

Vehicles with evidence of smoking are thoroughly cleaned, vacuumed and treated with a natural deodorizer and an oxidation process. De-smoking requires the vehicle to be taken out of service for up to 24 hours, therefore a Cleaning Fee of $400 may apply when evidence of smoking is present.

Our vehicles are equipped with a spare tire and a jack and lug wrench. In the event of a flat tire, it’s the renter’s responsibility, cost included, to replace the tire with the spare provided. We do not give flat tire replacement service. We unfortunately cannot assume responsibility for the damage caused to the tires and rims because of road hazards. Before purchasing a new tire, we require renters to contact the rental office for approval. Please drive carefully and be aware of the road ahead of you.

  • Ford Vans: A spare tire is located underneath the van towards the rear of the vehicle, and there is a compartment in the rear wall of the van on the right hand side that contains a jack and a screw lever to lower the wheel. The hole to insert the screw lever is located above the rear bumper near where the two rear doors intersect. Typically, there is a black rubber/plastic flap covering the hole that will need to be opened to access the wheel lowering mechanism.
  • Sprinter Vans: A spare tire is located underneath the van towards the rear of the vehicle. The tolls for the spare tire are underneath the floorboard in front of the passenger seat. The spare tire for Sprinters often uses a different size of wheel bolt than for the conventional tire. These bolts, if needed, are also found in the spare tire tool compartment. Make sure to use these special size bolts, because failure to do so could result in damage affecting the trip, as well as adding fees to the rental.

Many of our van and truck rentals are equipped with trailer hitches. If a renter wishes to use a rental for towing, to help find the perfect rental for the towing needs, the following must be provided to the rental agent:

  2. Distance?
  3. Gross Weight?

  • 21-23 years old: $25/day fee
  • 24 years old: $12/day fee

Weekend rental periods last from either Friday until Monday, or from Saturday until Monday.

This fee help protect renters from incurring any costs needed to repair damaged windshields.

Personal home or business automobile policy might cover car rentals. Call your insurance company to verify. Insurance companies will often insure a “like” vehicle, meaning that if the renter owns a minivan, they will insure a minivan rental.

We have learned from experience that most insurance companies and/or credit card companies do not offer coverage on a 12 passenger van, a 15 passenger van, box trucks, Sprinter vans, and Transit vans, however, customers are more than welcome to check with their company.

If customers rent any of the vehicles from our fleet and do not supply their own insurance, they are required to purchase CDW insurance in order to help cover potential losses.

Also, we reserve the right to not rent a specific vehicle unless the renter supplies us with proof of insurance.

Please contact us today with any further questions and we will be happy to help you!
